Maintain your wooden table
If you want to enjoy your table for many years, it’s important to maintain it properly. The Sav & Økse collection includes oiled tables, lacquered tables, and tables with a Fenix top. Each finish requires its own type of maintenance.
For daily use, the following applies to all wooden tables:
- Protect the table from heat sources, moisture, and colorants from food and drinks
- Use coasters, placemats, or tablecloths to prevent scratches and stains
- Prevent scratches from abrasive surfaces by using felt pads
View the usage guidelines here for our tables.
Lacquered wooden tables
If you have a lacquered wooden table, it requires little maintenance. Deep scratches, however, are more difficult to repair yourself.
The lacquered tables come with a factory-applied lacquer layer, which means the table can be used immediately. The lacquer provides optimal protection after 20 days, once it has fully cured. Be extra careful during the first 3 weeks of use.
For daily cleaning, use a clean dishcloth dampened with lukewarm water and well wrung-out. If necessary, use a mild soap solution. Although lacquer is more resistant to moisture than oil, prolonged exposure to water or other liquids may still cause stains or rings. Be careful with wet cloths, cups, and vases.
Abrasive cleaners, rough sponges, or cleaning machines are strongly discouraged. Aggressive cleaning products are also unsuitable for removing stains. Avoid placing hot items or heat sources directly on the table.
To clean a lacquered table, you can use WOCA Intensive Cleaner. Afterwards, apply WOCA Master Care for an extra protective layer and to camouflage small scratches.
Steps for maintaining a lacquered table:
1. Clean with WOCA Intensive Cleaner
2. Protect and camouflage scratches with WOCA Master Care
Oiled wooden tables
For daily maintenance, the rule is: the less cleaning product you use, the longer the oil will protect the wood. Use a clean dishcloth dampened with lukewarm water and well wrung-out. Do not use aggressive or abrasive cleaners. Wet cloths, cups, and vases can cause stains and rings. Spilled liquids should be wiped up immediately. Avoid excessive water on the surface.
The table comes with a factory-applied oil layer, so it can be used immediately. The oil provides optimal protection after 20 days, once it has fully cured. Be extra careful during the first 3 weeks of use.
An oiled table can be cleaned with WOCA Natural Soap. The soap removes dirt and gives the table a protective wear layer.
We recommend refreshing an oiled wooden table twice a year with maintenance oil. The maintenance oil has a lower viscosity, allowing you to apply a thin new layer rather than a thick coat. This replenishes the oil in the wood that is lost through wear. Consult the maintenance guide for wooden tables for instructions.
If you want to give an oiled table a more thorough refresh, first clean it with WOCA Intensive Cleaner. Afterwards, apply a new oil layer using a Sav & Økse oil kit or WOCA Oil Refreshing Soap.
Steps for a full maintenance treatment of an oiled table:
1. Clean with WOCA Intensive Cleaner
2. Apply a new oil layer with the Sav & Økse oil kit or WOCA Oil Conditioner
If you want extra moisture protection, you can treat the table with WOCA Maintenance Gel, which gives the surface a water-repellent layer.
Maintenance of tables with a Fenix top
Read the Fenix manual for instructions on cleaning and maintaining a wooden table with a Fenix top. A Fenix surface is easy to clean, and small scratches can be repaired using the supplied magic sponge.
